The root of the word Hammam is “to heat.” The Hammam experience begins
with relaxation on smooth marble in a warm room. Beneath the traditional
domed ceiling, it is softly lit and heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air.
Guests then move to a hot room where soothing streams of water are gently
streamed over the body.
After signature treatments that range from an invigorating scrub with olive oil
soap to a relaxing massage, the final chamber is visited: the cool room where
the guest is traditionally clad in silk or cotton for relaxation and refreshment.
Many guests feel moved to sing during the warm room experience. Legend has
it that any voice sounds good beneath the dome of the Hammam.
